The form is not inherently connected to the cosmos. It belongs to a family of 3-D shapes known as space-filling polyhedra. Our shape is a pair of conjoined elongated bi-symmetric sphendecahedron that, like cosmic rays, are not what they appear to be. Despite its disheveled appearance it is surprisingly symmetrical. We are obeying the geometry and taking liberties with the name.
